Campbell County warns residents about fake donation requests

Jeff Bezold Council Member | City of Fort Thomas

The Fort Thomas Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff's Office have issued a warning regarding fraudulent phone calls in Campbell County. These calls involve scammers requesting donations for the Sheriff, an action that is illegal for the Sheriff's Office.

The notice emphasizes that the Sheriff's Office will not contact individuals to request payment over the phone for resolving legal documents or warrants. Additionally, deputies will not meet individuals outside of official offices to address any situations.

Scammers are reportedly using the department's name and address, 1098 Monmouth Street, as a meeting location in parking lots to resolve issues. The authorities clarified that such meetings do not occur.

Residents are advised to verify any suspicious calls by contacting the Campbell County Sheriff's Office directly at 859-292-3833. The notice also warns against trusting calls where scammers mask their number with that of the Sheriff's Office, urging recipients to hang up and verify with the office first.
