The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is set to reopen the southbound lanes on I-471 near the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge this Sunday, February 9. This reopening comes more than a month ahead of schedule as part of an emergency repair project.
Following the reopening, engineers from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will adjust signal timings in Covington and Newport approximately two to three hours later. In Newport, signals at Third & Monmouth, Third & Saratoga, Third and Washington, Washington and Dave Cowens Drive, and Dave Cowens Drive & Park Avenue will be reverted to their original configurations with shorter phases.
In Covington, adjustments will be made along Fourth Street, Fifth Street, Greenup Street, Scott Street, and Garrard Street. These signals had upgraded traffic controllers installed in late November. KYTC plans to monitor traffic flow patterns post-reopening to determine if further adjustments are necessary for efficient traffic movement through these corridors.
