At Highlands High School, students achieved a college readiness rate of 68% on the reading portion of the ACT for the 2023-24 school year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

On average, students scored 22.4 in reading during the 2023-24 school year, compared to 23.4 in the previous year.

Reading proficiency in the school dropped 6% compared to the previous school year, when 74% of students were considered ready for post-secondary education.

For comparison, 42% of students across Kentucky met or exceeded ACT benchmarks in reading during 2023-24 school year.

Beyond reading, 80% of students Highlands High School met the English college readiness benchmarks in the 2023-24 school year. Additionally, 70% were considered college-ready in math.

Highlands High School is the only school located in Fort Thomas Independent School District.

In 2024, Kentucky ranked third among states testing 100% of their students on the ACT, with an average score of 18.6. However, NAEP scores indicate that Kentucky students have performed slightly worse in core subjects since 2019, particularly in math, where proficiency has dropped by nearly 10%.
