Lt. Sam Behrle, Firefighter/Paramedic Brandon Fromeyer, and Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Fite from the Fort Thomas Fire Department (FTFD) have been awarded the title of “Crew of the Quarter” for the first quarter of 2025 by the St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas Emergency Department staff. This recognition is part of St. Elizabeth's initiative to strengthen ties with local Emergency Medical Services by acknowledging exemplary performances.
The crew was acknowledged for a particular incident on December 27, 2024, where they responded to a call in the middle of the night to assist with transporting a staff member experiencing a stroke to the University of Cincinnati (UC). Although it was against the typical policy of the Fort Thomas team to transport to the ICU rather than the ER, they made an exception due to the severity and personal nature of the case. Upon being informed of the situation, Lt. Behrle assured the caller, “they would be there no matter what.”
The nomination highlighted the crew's exceptional support, noting, “They came no questions asked. They helped me transport the patient to the ICU. We stayed after dropping her off and they helped me to decompress in the medic room. I needed a laugh and support given the situation and I knew the outcome was not going to be a favorable one. We as a department appreciate their help ALL the time, but this felt more personable, and the favor was one that deserves a huge shout-out for helping.”
The recognition from the emergency department staff, including nurses and nurse managers, underscores the crew's dedication to patient care and collaboration with hospital staff. Their actions serve as an inspiring example within the community they serve.
