DEA encourages safe disposal during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Mayor Eric Haas | City of Fort Thomas

The DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is an initiative aimed at promoting safety and health by encouraging the public to dispose of unneeded medications. This event seeks to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from starting.

"Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic," expresses the initiative's importance. The event has seen participation nationwide, with people cleaning out their medicine cabinets and turning in a record amount of prescription drugs.

As a reference point, the DEA collected over 335 tons of unneeded medication last year, equating to nearly 28 school buses.

In Fort Thomas, residents can turn in unwanted medications in front of the City building from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, April 26. The Fort Thomas Lions Club will simultaneously collect old or unused prescription glasses. The initiative not only prevents medication misuse but also aims to "Help us keep glasses out of the landfills and keep drugs out of the wrong hands!"
